Addiction Treatment for a Working Parent: Mel’s Story

Woman holding a mug that says, 'take care of yourself first, you can't pour from an empty cup'

We’re grateful to Mel for this testimonial she wrote since graduating from our Online Rehab programme, the most affordable intensive addiction treatment in the UK. Like many of our clients, Mel is a working parent. She needed an alcohol addiction rehab that fit with her life.

Rehab in the real world: addiction treatment that works around you

‘At the age of 45, a wife and mum of three boys, I’d had several miserably failed attempts at stopping drinking. After what was the worst Christmas, I reached out to Help Me Stop. I was desperate to get my life back without alcohol and find me again (whoever that was!).

‘I decided to sign up to the Online Rehab treatment programme, as it fitted in with family life and working full time. At the initial assessment, Chris put me at ease immediately. I knew at that point I had come to the right place for help.

‘Although the 6-week programme is very intense, with evening sessions from Monday to Friday, it has been worth every single moment. The daily discussions, workshops and readings from the 12 step programme have definitely given me the tools I need to remain abstinent from alcohol and rediscover myself. Baring all and sharing the serious highs and lows of being an “alcoholic” is no easy feat! However, you soon come to realise you are definitely not alone.

‘On top of the daily evening sessions, my weekly one to one with Moira helped to reinforce any negative thoughts or chatter I had from the sessions or daily life. I’m very grateful to have had Moira as my therapist through my journey at Help Me Stop.

‘Bottom line for me, reaching out to anyone who is suffering from alcohol addiction, Help Me Stop is priceless. I am eternally thankful and grateful for what they have given me.’
