It’s World Mental Health Day and the theme is mental health in an unequal world. It’s about fair access to high quality treatment and affordable services. It’s about giving everyone, in every country in the world, the same opportunity to get specialist help. Help Me Stop was founded to break down barriers to addiction rehabilitation. To celebrate World Mental Health Day, we asked Erick to share his experience.
Help with Addiction
Erick’s experience of Help Me Stop Digital Dayhab
In 2021, Erick joined the Help Me Stop Digital Dayhab programme from Johannesburg. Here, Erick talks about logging on from South Africa, to get help with addiction to weed.
‘One of the most amazing things that I had with this programme is the fact that I’ve been accessing this programme all the way from Johannesburg, South Africa, which is a programme based in London that I attended online, but it was one of the best experiences ever. I felt like I was there. I felt connected. I felt involved despite the geographical distance. This was the help that I got all the way from the other side of the globe, which is the most amazing experience. I couldn’t imagine that I could get the help or overcome addiction through an online programme that I would attend from miles away in South Africa, and receiving help from London and it was life-changing because I still felt involved. Though it was online, it still gave me all the care and therapy that I needed. And I’m a brand new person today because of it.’
‘I feel like I’ve found myself’: Erick’s recovery from weed addiction
Listen to Erick speak about the incredible mental health and physical health benefits he’s found from getting help with addiction to weed. We’re cheering you on Erick. Everyone at Help Me Stop is so proud of how far you’ve come.
‘So, since I joined the programme, I am now 70 days’ sober, clean from smoking weed, which makes me feel great. I actually, I feel physically fit. My breathing is more better. I actually sleep much, much better right now. That’s the outcome that I’ve gotten through programme. One of the greatest things that has been achieved is my thought patterns. I was bound with so much negativity during active use and now I am completely in a different spectrum. My thought patterns are so much positive. I am looking forward to waking up the next day and pursuing my dreams. I feel that my memory has improved as well. I can remember things much more clearer than I used to when I was in active addiction. My spirit has been uplifted. I feel like I’ve found myself.’
